HandBrake is a free tool that’s available for Windows and Mac OS which allows you to convert videos to various formats, including the commonly used MP4 format. If you don’t already have HandBrake installed on your computer, you can download it from https://handbrake.fr.
Once you have Handbrake downloaded and installed, open the program to begin the conversion process. When Handbrake is first opened, it will ask for a Source. In this case the source will be the DVD that you wish to convert:
When you click the DVD icon, Handbrake should read the contents of the DVD and locate any relevant media files.
While there are a large number of presets and settings to choose from, we recommend:
Output Settings Container: MP4
Preset: Fast 1080 30
To begin the conversion click the Browse button to choose a destination for the converted MP4 file, then click Start Encode:
This process may take some time depending on the speed of your computer, but when complete you should have an MP4 file in the location you chose.
Note that this method will only work with non-copy protected DVDs, such as those created on your home computer or DVD recorder. Pirating commercial DVDs is illegal and can result in heavy penalties.
