What is a ticker?
A ticker will create a text string which scrolls across the screen of the video player. It is a convenient way to notify viewers about an unexpected change to the live stream.
Some examples of useful applications:
- Notify viewers about an internet issue which has caused the live stream to drop out temporarily.
- Tell viewers that the family has decided against a live stream but that you will be uploading a recording after the service.
- Let viewers know that the service is running 10 minutes late and will start shortly.
This is how it will appear on the live stream:
Note: the ticker can be turned off at any time, and will not be visible in the recording which is automatically created after the service
Adding a Ticker
To add a ticker, navigate to the relevant client. Click the Live Streams menu on the left and select the live stream you need the ticker for.
Scroll down and turn on the Show ticker toggle, then select a ticker that you have already created, or select New Ticker to create a new one.
This will show some additional fields to fill out. Give it a Name which will be used to select it from the dropdown menu if you want to reuse it in the future, and type out the Text which you want to display to the viewers. Then click Save.
The ticker can be turned off once the problem is resolved by navigating back here and turning off the Show Ticker toggle.
